We booked a holiday trip with Neckermann in January : one month in Venezuela from the 19th of January to the 17th Febuary in the Tropical Refuge Hotel Isla Margarita
Let us explain what was wrong :
The Hotel :
- only one restaurant out of two and one bar out of three were open
- no entertainment at all (except at week-ends but only for Venezuelians people and it stoped at 11P.M.); only 2 table-tennis tables wich were out of order; only 2 channels on TV; no games; nothing to do inside the hotel and nothing to do near the hotel
- one adult swimming pool and one children swimming pool that are unusable at week-ends because too crowded, dirty, etc.
- Food : very limited choice at every meal and always the same things. Big problem concerning the quantity of food : you better come very early or you won’t eat anything. On Valentine’s Day, they wanted to make a special buffet but couldn’t afford it. As a result there was a beautiful decoration but same food as usual except there were less (no bread, no soup, no fruits and the rest was not enough for all of us) and a queue of more than half an hour to get the hot food.
- Very limited choice of beverages
- A few positive points :
o The rooms were very simple but clean
o The hotel staff was nice
o Very affectionate cats : it kills time !
The Beach :
- it is very dirty
- you need to take a shuttle to go to the beach : it’s a very old car in a very bad condition (broken seats, starts with a screwdrive, no belt,...)
- the schedule for the shuttle is never respected and there are only two trips a day (you can’t go back to the hotel for lunch). Sometimes it is simply cancelled without a warning.
- The sea is very dangerous
The Neckermann Guide :
- when we arrived , no information was given :
o about the hotel (shedule of meals, of shuttle, possibility to get a towel for the beach...)
o about the dangers :
§ the sea which is dangerous : on one same day three people (including one in our hotel) died drowned. Even after that, he didn’t want to warn anybody
§ one couple went back by feet from the beach to the hotel one afternoon (no shuttle) and was attacked by three men with a gun. He wouldn’t tell anybody about that and warn people it could be dangerous to walk to the beach instead of taking the shuttle.
§ There was a dangerous neighborhood next to the hotel. We learned it afterwards. He never told us not to walk this way.
- we wanted to take the excursion to Orinoco and Canaïma with Neckermann. The guide had given us a sheet with all the prices (joined to this letter). Price of the excursion : 1091 BS (as writen). So we told to him :
o “we wan’t to buy the Orinoco excursion”
o “Yes, it’s 1091 BS.”
o “Good. Let’s buy it.”
o “You can also pay in euros.”
o “No, thank you. We wil pay in BS.”
o “Then you have to pay the double. It’s 2182BS”.
How can you explain THAT ??? Except by saying that Neckermann is an swindler ?
